SHUTTER Glass

Future Experience

A Bookmark for Overlooked Beauty

Bringing the NEC × Chizai Zukan Untapped Project" to Life

SHUTTER Glass is a smart eyewear device that captures unnoticed beauty in everyday life. Using a camera and high-speed object recognition technology, it continuously identifies and logs moments perceived as “beautiful” along with their time and location. This device helps users stay attuned to the subtle beauty in their surroundings, from nature’s details to acts of kindness.

Issue

The Role of Technology in an Information-Saturated Society

As the information age expands, the sheer volume of data makes it harder to notice the beauty around us. The natural world, thoughtful gestures, and fleeting moments often go unnoticed. By helping people recognize these moments, SHUTTER Glass offers a way to stay connected to one’s surroundings, even in a flood of information.

Creation

Capturing Overlooked Beauty

SHUTTER Glass is a futuristic eyewear device that lets users bookmark moments of beauty based on their perception. How It Works:
Wear SHUTTER Glass and go about your day as usual.
Place it on its charging port at home.
A projection on the wall reveals the beautiful moments you might have missed.
Users can clip their favorite scenes, saving them like a bookmark for later reflection.
This device enhances awareness of everyday beauty, even in a busy life. Originally conceptualized by NEC × Konel as part of the Untapped Project, the idea gained traction through Chizai Zukan, attracting interest from diverse fields. Inspired by the concept, the Graduate School of Medicine at Osaka University joined as a development partner, leading to a working prototype now displayed at the NEC Future Creation Hub Kansai.

Technology

High-Speed Object Recognition × Mental Templates

SHUTTER Glass integrates NEC’s real-time high-speed object recognition technology, which identifies moving objects without disrupting motion, with Osaka University’s Mental Template technology, which quantifies and visualizes user preferences based on perception.

Future

SHUTTER Glass is progressing into an interactive interior device that encourages mindfulness in an information-heavy world.
As a collaboration-driven project, it welcomes partners from various fields to expand its development and impact.
