Art Tourism Connecting Region and Culture

Hanamurasaki, though a ryokan, aspires to serve as a modern cultural salon. One of its key initiatives is a distinctive art tourism program designed for international guests. Visitors engage with the nature, culture, art, and crafts of Yamanaka and Kanazawa, while freely exchanging ideas. To express the richness of these experiences, we supported curation and produced both a website and an art book that visually capture this unique worldview.

Issue

A central challenge was how to share the appeal of Ishikawa’s nature and cultural experiences with international visitors in a way that reflects Hanamurasaki’s identity. This led to the launch of the project “Overlapping Ripples.” It views the inner and outer shifts that occur while exploring Yamanaka’s nature and crafts, as well as Kanazawa’s artists and art spaces, as “ripples.” The true value lies in how these ripples meet and interact, creating deeper meaning.
