A Digital Plant That Grows with the Mood of a Room

Developing a New Digital Plant Prototype

We developed a prototype for Log Flower, a digital plant that thrives on the emotional atmosphere of a space. As a development partner in GG—a project exploring near-future ideas—we helped bring this concept to life.

Log Flower adapts its growth based on the emotions it absorbs, acting as a "mirror" of its environment. By reflecting the way people communicate in a space, it fosters awareness and encourages a more positive mindset. As a one-of-a-kind "emotional plant," Log Flower sends a message to the world, reshaping how we connect with ourselves and each other.

Issue

Making the Invisible Atmosphere Visible to Inspire Positive Awareness

The COVID-19 pandemic reshaped daily life, increasing time spent at home with others. While this sometimes strengthened relationships, it also heightened stress. Since a room’s atmosphere (the collective emotional state of those present) influences behavior, we asked: What if we could make it visible?

We designed Log Flower, a digital plant that reacts to the emotions in a space, growing and changing based on the mood it absorbs. Watching its transformation helps people recognize shifts in communication and encourages more mindful interactions. By making the invisible atmosphere visible, Log Flower inspires awareness and fosters a more positive mindset.

Creation

Prototype Development

Log Flower evolves over 30 days using Empath, an AI technology that detects emotions from speech patterns. It begins as a small, round "seed," absorbs the room’s emotions to grow into a "sapling," and eventually blooms into a one-of-a-kind flower (a unique digital plant that visually represents emotions) with colors and shapes reflecting the space’s emotional atmosphere.

Emotion-to-Color Mapping:

Neutral → White
Joy → Yellow
Sadness → Blue
Anger → Red

Technology

Log Flower uses Empath, an AI-powered emotion recognition technology. It collects and processes invisible emotions, translating them into the flower’s color and shape to make them visible. This awareness helps people reflect on the atmosphere of a space. By fostering brighter conversations and considerate behavior, it promotes better communication.

※Empath analyzes emotions from voice tones, identifying joy, anger, sadness, and mood fluctuations based on a database of tens of thousands of voice samples.

Future

Log Flower will produce seeds in the future, allowing its growth cycle to continue.
We are developing ways to transfer these digital plants as unique assets or trade them as NFTs.
