The Woven Soundscape of Haruomi Hosono

As part of Haruomi Hosono’s 50th Anniversary Exhibition, “Hosono Kanko”, this interactive installation featured a 96-channel spatialized mix of his music, presented as “sound that has traveled through space.” Using an acoustic barrel system, the exhibition offered a one-of-a-kind immersive experience.

Issue

Celebrating 50 Years of Haruomi Hosono’s Legacy

A pioneering figure in Japanese music, Haruomi Hosono has shaped various genres, produced numerous artists, and composed for film and media. To mark his 50-year career, this exhibition featured an interactive sound installation as a key highlight.

Creation

Hosono Broadcast Space Experience

Hosono’s music has resonated in countless locations around the world. This installation reimagined his music as radio waves traveling beyond the atmosphere, reflecting off celestial bodies, and returning to Earth.

A 96-channel mix immersed visitors in a sound field shaped by precise wavefront theory. The acoustic barrel, equipped with 96 first-of-its-kind patented speakers, created an exclusive sonic experience—offering a unique entry into Hosono’s musical universe, available only in this exhibition.
